Exploring untamed Africa the 4×4 way? Then Tuskers Campsite is a step into wild Africa, just as you’ve always dreamed it would be. A chance to use your camping gear in the great outdoors and paradise for South African travelers who appreciate and respect those wide open spaces. The spacious ablution block is serviced and cleaned daily by the camp staff and wood fires are lit every night for your fireside meals. A thatched entertainment gazebo includes a fridge for your drinks and the camp has full electricity. Although Tuskers is a private campsite, this is raw Africa ….. there are no fences…… be prepared for an adventure of a lifetime.

Campers fees: US$15 per person per night. Game activities on the Ivory concession and into the Park are available on request with our guides.

Ivory Lodge welcomes new managers who have joined us after spending many years abroad.

Belinda and Pete have travelled extensively through Africa over the past 3 years. In 2010 they visited Ivory lodge on route to Victoria Falls. It was love at First sight… The seed was planted and Belinda stated then and there that it would be her dream to one day live and manage Ivory Lodge along with Pete.

In 2011 that dream was realised and they are now established as the Management couple at Ivory Lodge.

Belinda was born and raised in Harare and is 3rd generation Zimbabwean. She studied and practiced social work in South African and in the UK, where her 3 children live. Belinda also previously worked the hospitality industry overseas, but her heart and soul has always remained in Africa.

Pete was born in England and has a background in finance. He has 4 daughters who currently reside in the UK. When he first visited Zimbabwe, Pete knew that this was somewhere that he could call home. Peter has a deep love for music and has taught himself to play the guitar, a hobby that he and Belinda share.

Both Peter and Belinda share a strong desire to work positively and inclusively in the developing community projects supported by The Mother Africa Trust.

Last, but not least, little Shumba. This pooch was a gift to Ivory Lodge from a local Chief. He enjoys scraps of food and playing in the grass and also lots of affection.

We’d like to pay tribute to the people who live to protect and document the lions of Hwange – The Lion Researchers, who also do great work with de-snaring all other animals in this area. Your work may be tiresome and sometimes heart wrenching but we applaud your every effort. So on behalf of our team and guests who travel here from around the world to photograph these ivory colored beauties, we thank you.

A pride of 6 lions visited us this week, killing 2 buffalo at the Ivory pan within 3 hours of each other. Guests were awoken at 5.15 and looked out from their snug tree-houses to watch the king of beasts in action. Then, at 7.30 am they killed again…… they returned to their feast later that night, much to the excitement of our in-house guests.

Thanks to our Managers, Karen & Adam, for the photos {25th July 2011}

Ivory Lodge is fortunate to be within the home-range of the unique clan of elephants known as The Presidential Elephants of Zimbabwe. This is Zimbabwe’s flagship herd; over 300 wild, free-roaming elephants that were, in the late 1990′s unusually habituated by the famous Alan Elliot to the presence of our game-drive vehicles. The Ivory Pan is one of their particularly favourite play-grounds. Whilst on an Ivory game-drive, you’re also likely to encounter these trusting giants and experience the special magic of being amongst extraordinarily calm, wild elephants in unfenced wilderness areas.

If you have a special interest in elephants, and would cherish the chance of close-up encounters, please make your request to have Peter be your guide at the time of booking your accommodation to ensure he is available. Peter, our guide, is resident at Ivory but does have to go off to see his family from time to time. At least 2 afternoon drives are necessary to enable a good chance to have a wonderful encounter with these exceptional animals, remembering too that Ivory Lodge is in a true wilderness area where all animals roam freely.
