A great sighting at the Ivory Safari Lodge waterhole today when two painted dogs payed us a visit, whilst one braved the waterhole for a drink. Our hostess, Jaimie, managed to get some great pictures.
With activities like this – who needs to go on a game drive when you can watch all the action from the comfort of your raised tree-house style lodge or the private safari hide.
The Wild Dog, also known as the Painted Dog or the Cape Hunting Dog, are unique to Africa and are among this continents most endangered animals. These endangered canines closely resemble wolves in their pack oriented socal structure; Zimbabwe holds one of the last strongholds of the species, it is estimated that there is less than 7,000 Wild Dogs remaining in the wild, with approximately 200 Painted Dog left in Hwange National Park.
